Resi Goes Social: Review & Tips   Full ReviewRead full Resident Evil 5 review

Resident Evil 5 is very similar to and very different from the previous Resi. The game remains faithful to the classic gameplay formula, artistic & technical perfection, just this time... Resi goes social! And the co-operative gameplay is not just an add-on feature- that's the core of its gameplay. There're always two of you- Chris & Sheva (AI or your buddy)- and you'll need a full co-operation to survive in the infected Africa.

And before you say "But then that's less scary!", let me remind you, that co-op is not a novelty in horror games, but the proven formula that extends longevity of games almost to infinity (Diablo 2 anyone? It's still being played, if you ask me). The brighter settings also make Resi more 'family friendly' and that was obviously the intention of Capcom- watch this Japanese TV Spot (featuring 'Gogo' from Kill Bill) to get the idea.

Resident Evil 5 Hands-on
02-02-2009   Author: HorrorStyle.com
Resident Evil 5 Hands-onVisually Resident Evil 5 looks gorgeous- that's maybe one of very few games that can stand up to Metal Gear Solid 4. Character models are so polished and detailed that you'll take your time to study them. Designs are astonishing- but think about jewelry-level details, rather than The Egyptian pyramids. But this doesn't apply to level bosses- they are cult from the first look.

It's not 1080 game, but think of it as of advantage- all environment and character textures look consistent and nothing stands out (except for the visual beauty of the game). Another phenomenal point is that the environments are so rich & detailed that you'll have pleasure exploring them. And they are hell convincing- your imagination will start feeling a bad smell in a toilet.

There was nothing left without attention. And that especially applies to animations (forget funny walk of Snake). Both of them- the main character Chris and his lady Sheva - move flawlessly. Worry not- there will be moments where you'll be able to fully appreciate animators' work (assisted jump or 'hook' attack, for instance)

One thing you should be aware if you're new to Resident Evil games- the control scheme is unique to the franchise (forget standard FPS/TPS controls). It helps that there're different types of schemes. 'D' control scheme possibly would work the best for newbies, but you never know- it's better to try all of them.

Another advice for novices- Resident Evil is called a survival horror game for a good reason. Tough fights, limited ammo, hordes of zombies, kick-ass bosses (errr, tougher than that) will make Chris' life difficult enough. And I think it would be a good idea if you would get used to controls, before jumping in co-op modes- you don't want to let down your friend, do you? :)

Resident Evil 5 Versus Scoring System
07-04-2009   Author: HorrorStyle.com
Resident Evil 5 Versus Scoring SystemThe long awaited Resident Evil 5 Versus Mode is available now on Xbox 360 (XBL) and Playstation 3 (PSN). One of Versus variants is "Survivors" where players are fighting other players online and score points for successful strikes against each other. Being attacked by another player reduces your own score, to a minimum of zero. Scores are awarded as shown in the following table, with a 50% Damage and Score bonus for headshots.

After a successful attack, the score for the move will be displayed in the top right of the attacker's screen and added to that player's running total. Correspondingly, the victim of the strike loses 50 points for any and all attacks suffered. Whoever inflicts fatal damage on another player will earn a bonus 3,000 points. Deaths by Proximity Bomb or exploding oil drum will also be attributed for score purposes. lf a player dies (for any reason, either in a monster attack or by another player's hand) then they lose 1,000 points. lt is possible to be reduced to zero points.

16-03-2009
Resident Evil 5 ships more than 4 million unitsCapcom's Official Press Release: Resident Evil 5 ships more than 4 million units globally, highest in the Resident Evil series. That doesn't come as a surprise- it's one of the best games and it went multi-platform. However, another interesting fact, announced in the press release, is that Capcom used technology of Hollywood filmmakers- "from contrast of light and darkness to focus on shot".
