NISINIRVANA, 2010. -- 50 x 100 x 4 cm. Acrylic on deep edge canvas
With this work I aimed to express the explosive ecstasy of a spirit freed from bodily burdens. ‘Nirvana’ literally means ‘blowing out’ in Sanskrit, and in the Buddhist context it refers to the ‘blowing out’ of the fires of greed, hatred, and delusion. But can such an ‘absolute bliss’ be possible or is it just another illusion, nisi-nirvana?

This primal creature is stepping fearlessly into new territory, and ancient land creature striding forth with a confident gait, stepping over buildings and fields. The feeling of this painting could be London, the River Thames and bridges crossing over between the north and south bank. Confident lines give a sense of peeling back an old life and starting anew.
