About Deivis Slavinskas

Born in Lithuania in 1973 to a jewelry designing father and an architect mother, Deivis’s art education started in early childhood - from his father’s improvised lectures on design and art in general to watercolour and drawing workshops with his mother. In the early years at secondary school Deivis’s skills caught the attention of his art teacher and she spent long after-class hours in further developing his skills.

A successful entrance examination to the Kaunas Art School in 1987 marked a new era of Deivis’s self-realisation - he became not only uncompromisingly absorbed by visual arts but also by art culture in general. In the fourth year of his studies Deivis developed an interest in sculpture and began modelling clay. This affection for three-dimensionality has never ceased and it continues to manifest itself through the richness of texture in his contemporary paintings, some of them being two-and-half-dimensional.

After finishing his studies at art school he enrolled at the Vytautas Magnus University in 1991 to study Graphic Design. However, alongside his main studies Deivis continued to attend the art school’s evening courses for many years. On graduating from the University he plunged right into the economic turmoil that followed the re-establishment of Lithuanian independence. Nevertheless Deivis managed to find resources to attend years-long courses with two of the most renowned painters in Lithuania - A.Šatas and V.Kašinskas - who have had a major influence on the mindset of Deivis.

The highly competitive fast-track commercial world has been a challenge Deivis has grasped with dynamism, relentless skill development and a talent that have led him to a successful international multi-award winning 15-year-long career as a graphic designer and artist, dedicating all available time to develop his painting. In 2006 Deivis came to UK to work in “Dragon” Peter Jones’s multimedia company PJ Media where he now heads the creative department.
